"Beginning with the release of club classics "The Prayer" and "Lakou-A" in 1996, Jephte Guillaume has made his presence known in the House and world music communities. This double-CD (also pressed on triple-vinyl!), originally released in 1998, collects all of Jephte's 12" singles for Spiritual Life Music, along with 11 other tracks, running the spectrum from Vodou-influenced Haitian roots rhythms, straight-up house beats, Brazilian samba and jazz-funk. There's not a bad cut on the album!Jephte was instrumental in establishing both Spiritual Life Music (the label owned by DJ/Producer/Remixer Joaquin "Joe" Claussell), as well as the "Body & Soul" sound, a deep mix of worldbeat, Garage, disco, House, Jazz and Soul which has become identified with the New York Sunday evening party of the same name. Jephte's performance with the Tet Kale Orkestra at 1999's Body & Soul party in Central Park was one of the musical highlights of the summer.This album represents the best of deep house and world-influenced dance music over the past 5 years.
