"Fans, get ready for a real treat. Avant-madman Steve Stapleton has been nothing if not unpredictable for the last decade or so, dabbling in techno (Rock 'n' Roll Station), art rock (An Awkward Pause), drones (Shipwreck Radio), and most bizarrly, lounge music (Huffin' Rag Blues). When I saw the title of this latest Nurse-thing, I wondered if it would be Huffin' Rag 2, but I should have known better. Much to my surprise and delight, The Surveillance Lounge is a return to classic early noise-fests of yore. Rude, abrupt sound effects, cut-up collages, women speaking in foreign tongues-this one picks up where Merzbild Schwet and Gyllenskold left off. I've gone back to this disc for repeat listenings more than any Nurse album in years. If Stapleton's earliest work remains your favorite, I guarantee you'll love this."
