CD Reviews

Freakin' Heavy Metal: O God The Aftermath, A Marvelous End T
Philip N. Wright | 04/26/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Now... lets talk about Norma Jean.

Norma Jean stunned everyone senseless with their brutal onslaught conveyed under the name 'Bless The Martyr And Kiss The Child', and are now back to beat you senseless with 'O God The Aftermath: A Marvelous End To The Exhausted Contendor'.

This is a band that lives and breathes heavy music. Playing a fusion of Metalcore/Hardcore and, dare i say it, noise. They certainly can play their instruments, but not one song on this album tells us that.

Don't get me wrong, i still like this. It's a great package, some of the best art i've seen, but still, WTF???? And the DVD is good, and gives us views into the bands goofy personalities, and snippets of recording sessions and live concerts.

Don't listen to reviews that tell you this is hardcore - IT IS NOT!But if you like really heavy, Alt. Metalcore, you will like this. I hated it the first time i heard it, but after three or four listens, I actually liked it and could discern noise from riff, (to some extent.)

O God The Aftermath indeed..."
Hmm... different.

"Now I loved Bless the Martyr and kiss the child and I was SOOO excited about the new Cd. But I was torn down... Ogodtheaftermath was so different and not hardcore with wierd noise like screaming. It was so metalish that I hated it at first. But disregarding that NJ used to be way better this is a good CD. Very nice unique riffs. Very good metal."
