"This is Versailles, in America because of a name conflict they are called Versailles Philharmonic Quintet, outside the US, Versailles.

The product description is accurate. You get a CD, and a DVD in this set, plus the extra song "Prince" that I believe is not on the import version of this CD. Versailles is awesome, their songs have a touch of refined beauty or romanticism underlying the metal. Beautiful melodies enhanced by the powerful drumming of Yuki which can be quite fast, and awesome guitar work by both Hizaki,and Teru, with great riffs. Kamijo is an awesome vocalist. All the songs are mostly written by Kamijo, Hizaki, and some with Teru. The lyrical theme is romanticism, beauty, and death. I have liked all their music, it is very expressive metal in a romantic way, that is beautiful and powerful at the same time."

"Kamijo, Hizaki, Jasmine You, Yuki and Teru make beautiful music together. I became a fan of theirs because I love the way they dress but when I actually heard their music, I was in love! You will not regret buying this cd. It is the best cd I've heard this year hands down!"

Good Japanese Symphonic Power Metal

"When I fell upon a video by these "guys" on youtube I was a bit taken a back by their costumes, (Versailles is part of the visual kei movement in Japan); basically they're dressed like royal women in the court of 18th century Paris France,(well at least two of them are, the other three members are dressed in more male-ish costumes). But visuals aside these guys are incredible musicians. If anyone doubts me go ahead and check them out on youtube.

Basically if your flavor of music is in the Symphony X, Angra, Dragonforce, or Children of Bodom category then chances are you'll like these guys. Versailles falls within the heavier realm of Power Metal bands with thrash and black metal elements throughout. The singer sings in Japanese in most of the songs and the ones where he does sing English you can't understand him anyway, but I don't care I also dig Mago de' Oz who sing in Spanish, but like them I value Versailles more for their music rather than their lyrics.

As a guitar player and musician myself I like these guys for their abilities,(particularly the yngwie-ish solos). Anyway for their first album this is very accomplished. If you like fast, technical, metal with lots of cool shreddy solos then Versailles is worth a look!"

Get past the aesthetics and WOW...a great band beneath.

"Before anyone reads this thinking I'm ripping on the whole "Visual Kei" thing, I'm not at all. Visual Kei has some incredible talent in the genre and the look is part of the whole package. It's visually stunning and adds to the overall appeal.

That said....the point I am trying to stress is that even if Versailles (Philharmonic Quintet here in the States) were a bunch of average joes you would find in front of a convenience store, they would still be incredible. As over the top and pompous as the look is (Hizaki and the late Jasmine You are the most over the top in their flowing gowns), the music itself is very regal and well executed and works well with the aethetic.

Hizaki is as good a shredder as anyone in the traditional metal scene...and in many ways BETTER. The shredding isn't contrived or out of place. It serves the song in almost every instance.

The production here is top notch and it really is hard for me to pick a song that really stands out as they all work so well as a whole. I will, however, say that "Zombie" is about as heavy as anything from Pantera. Actually, I would call it the bastard child of "Walk" by Pantera and "The Beautiful People" by Marilyn Manson.

It stands out as the one track that really caught me off guard and somewhat veers away from the formula. It's still pretty great and proves that they aren't all about pretense.

I'm fairly new to the Japanese scene, although I have loved Sex Machineguns for quite some time, and I am looking forward to getting as much info on these bands as possible. Versailles is a great way to start and I am hooked!!!"

"I first got this CD because I thought it just had a CD. But when I got it, I was surprised to see it had a DVD as well. I love Versailles. Definitely put Aristocrat's Symphony on repeat and love the track Zombie. It also comes with a bonus track called Prince which I couldn't find on the import version. I love this CD."
