"definetly an album that needs to be recognized. i miss the pixies and 1945 brings them back to me, safe and snug in my own bed. it's fun and it has great melodies, yet the lyrics can be destorted and disturbing. hunters tone along with katherines's kim deal soundalike voice do wonders for anyone smart enough to listen. by this album now and pray to the lord they'll be in your city soon.."

"Birmingham Alabama's 1945 is one of the best bands nobody's heard of, a scintillating indie band with a unique sound. And "Together We'll Burn Like Autumn Leaves" is a treat for music fans. While it lacks some of the musical complexity of the following CD, this album is solid, enticing and very well-written."Together" blasts on with the fairly good "In A Red Cavalier," then "swims like a fish" into the leisurely, very catchy rockers (sea-tinged "Through the Ocean," "Shadow of You," rollicking "Cemetary Gates"), and searing laments (wailing "A Murder In California," the stately, dignified "Andrea Doria").Music addicts may sit up and listen when they hear "Together We'll Burn Like Autumn Leaves." No, this isn't a collection of catchy Pixies songs. The vocals are smoother, the music slightly poppier. But Hunter Manasco and Larry Holt's guitar riffs are, while not hugely original, very stirring and attention-grabbing; it's hard not to bounce to this music. Will Lochamy's drums slip in and out with a crash. The lyrics are winningly evocative and often resemble poetry in their use of strange images and beautiful ideas, though a few of the rhymes are a bit simplistic. "With flowers lacing through her smile/she thinks of me once in a while" Manasco informs us. The vocals, by Katherine McElroy and Hunter Manasco, are often a little overwhelmed by the music, often singing together and weaving in and out of each other. In "Together We'll Burn Like Autumn Leaves," 1945 (also called Nineteen Forty Five) hadn't yet blossomed fully, but their music is captivating and entertaining. A must-buy."
Highly recommended!

"If you've ever wished The Pixies were still together, you owe it to yourself to pick up this album. It rocks from start to finish with one catchy riff after another. In particular, check out the songs "Through the Ocean" and "The Whore Next Door"."
