Synopsis

Album Description
CREATION, the debut from Ireland's NINA HYNES, has finally found its way out into the unsuspecting world. The release firmly represents an experimental departure in music coming out of Ireland and will certainly put NINA's name in the Irish music history books as a pure innovator. The songs on CREATION cover a vast territory of sound; Starting off with the technology and dark electronica driven rhythms of "William Tell," listeners will undoubtedly identify NINA's beautiful voice as the central character to the musical landscapes they are about to travel through. What follows is a world of the ethereal and otherworldly in "He Turned The Light Out", and just when the listener thought they left earth, "Trigger" brings them back down with a thud with pulverizing sample and guitar based alternative fuzz. "This Magic Stuff," a deceptively radio friendly pop song, will taunt those who enter with lyrics of love and longing while strangely opening up the world of NINA HYNES to all those who dare. The CD has received a warm response in America and is currently getting airplay on the few U.S. radio stations it has been leaked to. Nic Harcourt @ KCRW in L.A. has been a big champion of NINA on his Morning Becomes Eclectic show, calling her music "a cross between Bjork and Massive Attack... Perfect end of the century pop," which has led to strong West coast interest and a movie soundtrack offer. Bruce Warren @ "tastemaker" radio station WXPN in Philadelphia described the release best; "It's just beautiful. This is just an incredible sound and the songs are terrific." One of NINA's songs was recently used during NBC's U.S. T.V. coverage of the 1999 French Open.

CD Reviews

Listening to the samples should be enough to convince you.

"Lovers of Bjork may actually find themselves feeling blasphemous after hearing Nina Hynes sing. The sound is similar to Bjork, but there is something extra there that we may all find that we were wanting to hear all along. Add to this a band who understands her and finds a unique balance of support and accompaniment, and you have something that is unfortunately rare in the music industry of late: a good album. Every song has its own sound, ambient at times, hard edged at others, and every sound in between. The music is full of emotion that will lull you one moment, and build you into a frenzy the next. "This Magic Stuff" is one of the most unique and powerful songs I have heard since the Sugarcubes'"Birthday." I have never felt I should promote a band before, but I truly feel that everyone should listen to this music. It could very well save the world."
Amazing!

"This is an amazing CD. I've seen the band live on several occasions in Dublin and New York. I never ever thought that they could capture the power, spirit and soul of their live shows onto a recording, but they have. Believe me. Very well produced/recorded and overall just an amazing, amazing sound... THIS MAGIC STUFF is probably destined to be an alternative legend of a song, while HE TURNED THE LIGHT OFF is a song that, while listening to it, you can almost see sparkles in the air; Beautiful and seriously surreal. TRIGGER is much harder edged and definitely makes you think that there is some musical genius at work here. The finale, BRING ME ALIVE showcases the whole band. In it, Nina's striking voice almost becomes another instrument as the song descends into My Bloody Valentine territory. Bloody incredible...As you can tell, I'm convinced. If you haven't seen them live or heard this debut, DO IT! It's important. While this band are nothing like their compatriots U2, they tread the same powerful ground with songs from the soul and music that sends tingles up your spine. More please!P.S. Check out the secret (well, not so secret now) track which is probably one of the most interesting tracks on the album..."
