This is an excellent introduction to traditional Japanese music in its percussive aspects. The ensemble Nihon Daiko gives dozens of performances every year at festivals in Japan, and occasionally takes their act on the road (this CD was recorded at the Festival Mondial des Cultures in Canada), bringing their scrupulously observed and vibrantly performed music to large audiences.
