CD Reviews

A decent mix of Eurotrance, but Warren's done better

"If you are an absolute die hard of trance, sure there's parts to enjoy about this set, but even as a serious fan, this left a lot to be desired. First off, be prepared for no vocals throughout the discs, which may not seem a drawback, but it makes 2+ hours of trance more dull than you'd think. The biggest problem with the first disc is a lack of flow. It starts off with a bunch of credible songs, notably Beachball by Nalin and Kane. it then veers into more typical squelchy-fast beat stuff that seems frankly out of date to me. This disc is listenable but not special.Disc 2 starts off with a simple fade up into the song, and is pretty much banging Eurotrance track after track. Of course it has some staples "Cafe del Mar" and even the theme from MTV's Amp, deepsky's hit (track 9?) and the set ends decently, but but then you've had enough. Is this listenable? sure, and enjoyable in parts, but it's not Warren's best, probably the least exciting of the Global Underground series, and definately behind many, many other sets out there."
Nick Warren in trance heaven

"Nick Warren is a good DJ. His release in prague was BEFORE the almighty Paul Oakenfolds release in Oslo. He is awesome. I bought this album way after it came out so it is a bit dated but still a blast. I loved his Amsterdam album for it's creativty, his Budapest for it's hard hittingness, and his Brazil for.....well it's phat. This is were it all started, though, so you gotta give props. I like it, expecialy track 10 on CD2.....there are other great ones on here but his use of paino is fantastic.Other people who reviewed this and said how much they are sick of hearing Cafe Del Mar on comps.........Did you look at when this was RELEASED!? give him a break....well, nuff said. You want the tranceyest trance you can get, then buy this sucker. :-)"

"I wanted to clarify my original review so people dont buy this then hate it. Other people said it sounded dated, done better else where, ect. This IS dated. 2 1/2 years is old for electronic music. Im sure everone has heard Del Mar enough to puke by now. If you size this up against new, progressive trance, it just cant hang. This is an older style of trance. You wont find the pounding beats and base drones typical in modern progressive trance. Many parts are very dancy, others are more chill and trippy (hence the name "trance"). Other parts (11 disc 2) are awe inspiring. This style of trance is dying. Progressive trance has reached the point where its almost impossible to distinguish it from up-tempo house and speed garage. What I will always LOVE about this album is that it takes you on a journey. Its almost like Nick is telling a story through music, not just dishing out dance beats (but there are many). I think its a trace classic. Warren, Oaky, and Digweed's early GU releases is what set off GU, their careers, and trance as a whole. This was Warren's "Transport" back in the day. If you can't appreciate that about this, or just want the newest, best beats, dont buy this. If you wanna know where trance came from or can appreciate a disc that goes from ambient to great beats and back again give it a shot. This will always be a fav of mine at least. Ok, Im off the soap box..."
