People don't understand the point of this grandiose mix...

"When someone buys Nick Warren, they want something out of the ordinary. This is not so with most other DJs; with Oakenfold and PVD you're set for banging trance, and with Sasha and Diggers you're set for melodic trance. With Nick Warren, every set is a new experience, but they are all kept together with that subtly percussive, uplifting and musical sound that is his signature. The pure creativity of this mix got me, it fit perfect for a wierd but wonderful experience. The same thing with Renaissance Revelation, people don't understand that it is meant to be a totally new experience. Don't let techno junkies and cynical trainspotters get in your way of the enjoyment of this mix!"
Warren turns over a new leaf.

For those long-time Nick Warren fans, it doesn't come as much of a shock. For those who compare this with his earlier GU releases, it is like comparing night and day. While listening to this album, one may ask, "What the f*ck happened?"Disc one starts with the ephemeral notes of "The Word" and "Eternity". Soul Mekanik's "I'll Call U" is a great track that will get your body moving -- just a bit. The rhythm speeds up a notch from that point with WoW's low-key remix of "Intensify" and Soul Interactive's "Riddem Control". "Hedfuk" is great, and Fluke's "Bullet" is a bitchin' track from the past.Disc two starts off at a rapid clip. "Ajuna", "Sparc" and "Play" are three outstanding tracks. "Ajuna" primes you for the driving and addicting beats on "Sparc", transitioning into "Play", which seems to have been drawn straight out of GU's Brasil compilation, also spun by Warren. The Stripped Mix of Ariane's "Eternity" is a great close for this ecclectic collection.Nick Warren has shown a different face with this album. It is by no means a head-banging trancer. It is much more subdued, requiring one to listen to it in earnest in order to appreciate what Warren is delivering. No raw drum beats, no abrasive synths. No sharp peaks or dips. Only refined, funky, driving melodies that carry the listener from start to finish. If you're looking for something with explosive energy, try Warren's GU005-Budapest or GU008-Brasil compilations.

"This Double CD is worth every penny that i spent on it. To start i own just about every Gu album including nick's budapest, reyjavik, and prague albums. ( No Brazil :( ...!) CD1 starts of with the a great set opener and continues through some great mixes like Holden's Ariane song and warrens own lightning song Intensify. The Cd ends awesome with Bullet and a wicked remix of PMT's Gyromancer. This CD is somewhat chill, but far from a warmup mix.CD2 starts of WEAK!... the first song of this Cd blows, however nick recovers quickly with some quick tunes 2-5. When the bassline of track 6 hit i was in awe cause this song is Roof Lifting! warren calms things down a bit with song 7 and 8 and prepares you for the best 2 songs on the CD. Tracks 9 and 10 absolutely kill me. The breakdown and buildup into the climax of 9 and suddenly being mixed into the bubble bass of 10 is awesome. 10 is a trance track, but its FAR from Cheese. The set ends with a ambient remix of Ariane... a track from the first disk that leaves u in wonder of how nick did it.Just friggin buy it"
Am I the only one who finds this album almost incomprehensib

"Ok, I'll concede that I'm likely spoiled by the best. Digweed, Sasha, Sander K, Hybrid, etc. All these fellows have taught me how to digest this extremely expressive form of music. I trust them, and even some of their lesser-praised works I extremely enjoy.
I'll also concede that this album has some killer tracks on it. I can't recall the track names (I really don't note them on discs I like even), but I'm glad to have them in my collection, and in my opinion they are the redeeming qualities of this blundersome release.
My final concession is that this album is the only example of Nick Warren's work that I have. This was my first purchase of his music, and only now am I willing to give some of his other work a chance.
So the reason why these two mixes still fall out of my favor is very simple: It is very uninventively and even slightly erroneously mixed. On CD2, he even brings a track in upside-down! (this is what I call it when an incoming track hits the snare on the opposite beat of the outgoing track's snare) Symptomatic of my not having heard any of his other works, I have no way of knowing whether or not this is standard quality for him, but this album was and remains, a big dissapointment.
