Before he was one of the biggest teen pop star pin-ups on the planet, before the Backstreet Boys sold a zillion records, and before being named one of People magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People In The World," Nick Carter ... more »was a very talented kid with a dream. Nick Carter: BEFORE The Backstreet Boys 1989-1993 gathers ALL of Carter's early efforts, the recordings that eventually helped him land a gig in one of the world's top singing groups. For Boys fans everywhere, Nick Carter: BEFORE The Backstreet Boys 1989-1993 is that special album that captures the innocence and promise of one of their favorite stars, the youngest of the Backstreet Boys and perhaps it's most popular member. The album's 17 selections are the first professional recordings featuring Nickolas Gene Carter. Produced in the Saint Petersburg, Florida studio of Mark J. Dye, Carter's producer, composer, arranger and vocal teacher from 1989-1993, they span Nick's progress from the age of nine to 13. Two of the songs were written especially for Nick by Dye: "Summer!" (the first time Carter ever sang four-part harmony and all of the parts are him!) and "Hard To Get" (a duet with longtime singing partner, Malia). Yet another landmark is his recording of "The Star Spangled Banner", the first time he ever recorded a song solo (at age 11). His earliest recording, "Sunday Morning Bells", recorded in 1989, is also included as a bonus track. Other bonus tracks are a Nick only, solo version of "Hard To Get" and another Dye song written for and performed by Malia, Nick's singing partner during 1992 and 1993. The remaining selections run the gamut from pop standards to the patriotic: "Love Is A Wonderful Thing," "More Today Than Yesterday," "Rhythm Of My Heart," "Runaround Sue," "Lights," "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do," "Jailhouse Rock," "God Bless The U.S.A.," "Uptown Girl," "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" and a medley of "Just A Gigolo"/"I Ain't Got Nobody." "This album is quite a little Gem! Before i hesitantly bought this album i was scared it may feature Nick with an immature and weak voice that children normally have (until their voice matures and becomes stronger with age). Well, how wrong could i be? I was quite surprised that the young Nick i thought may have an immature voice at that age, had quite the oppostite much to my delight. He sings his heart out with maturity, and even holds his voice well when he hits those high notes. He sings songs previously done by Michael Bolton and Rod Stewart which makes you think he'd have a hard act to follow - wrong again! He adds his innocent and profound spark which is exactly the charm that coats this album, producing a very proffessional and grown-up album. You can see where Aaron gets his inspiration from! This album definately deserves to be heard and I would certainly recommend this to any fan of his or the Backstreet Boys, because after all they are among some of the top singers that we have!"
Awesome!

"What a great collection of up beat and classic hits sung by Nick when he was just starting out. So seldom do you ever get the opportunity to hear or see where artists began. It is so cool to hear Nick sing and develop his talent. This is the best album for the true Nick Carter fan who wants it all."

"INSPIRATIONAL FOR YOUNG SINGERS. i found this cd for my kids who want to be on American Idol. we are in a rural area with no one to teach my kids to sing. they are using this music to practice their singing. they are learning the words to the songs and singing along with nick carter. this makes them feel like they are having professional singing lessons. we play it in the car when we drive to and from school and they sing along the whole time. nick carter sure sounded good when he was a boy. the kids want to work hard and be a singer like nick."
