An incomparably rich recording

"Nicholas Ludford's music buzzes with sweet-natured generosity. His long, complex phrasings glide like birds in aerial ballet. For all their expansive sweep and play, Ludford's musical canvases are also intricate. The Choir of New College rises to the challenge of these generous compositions with a broad, open sound that brims with intelligence and comprehension. The men and boys of the choir can both subtly limn the sensitive counterpoint and also convey Ludford's often sheer exuberance. It's a joy to hear this brilliant but neglected music sung so well by the forces for which it was written. Of things to take to exile on the proverbial desert island, this disk would be on my shortlist."
