Exquisite & Exotic Spanish Music
Gypsy Guitars | Kula, UpCountry Maui, Hawaii | 10/23/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"this is far & away the best Harp CD for Gypsy Music lovers !!! i am soooo full of gratitude to Deutsche Gramaphone for finally releasing this classic recording on CD !!! the beauty of Zabaleta's Harp & the themeatic consistency of the repertoire create an exquiste & exotic listening experience full of subtlety & nuance that the Harp can provide... the mostly Albeniz program creates an almost Flamenco atmosphere yet with a delicacy that delights the needs of quieter occasions... i cannot recommend this music enough !!! absolutely gorgeous !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
My favorite recording

"I first discovered this recording 35 years ago, shortly after returning from an extended period of living with the Mazatecan Indians. I had never heard anything quite like it, and yet, the tunes were almost half remembered. There is something truly ethereal, almost transcendent about these performances. The tone of the harp is so golden, so resonant, so pure, that its like sticking your head through a window into a magic garden in the light of the full moon. There is something very other worldly about these compositions. They are extremely emotionally evocative. But the setting has to be right. This is not background music. This is music for achieving a kind of reverie born of full immersion. Out of print for many years, I tracked down a copy a few years ago from Germany. I have never heard another harpist in the same league as Zabaleta. He is a virtuoso's virtuoso."
