Synopsis
Amazon.com Good news for 'Boys fans. Two years after Take Me to Your Leader comes Step Up to the Microphone. Indeed a step up, the contemporary Christian group's seventh updates and augments their sound with splashes of Britpop (albeit after the wave has crested) and a more current, modern rock feel. There are fewer bouncy dance-pop tunes here, but rhythm has by no means been forsaken for accent. What they have gained is a passion for the irresistible hook. Listen to opening track "WooHoo," with its grungy intro giving way to a tight groove and an infectious chorus. Or the soaring melodies of "Entertaining Angels" and "Hallelujah." If you weren't a fan before, do yourself a favor: step up and listen to the News. --Jerry Chamberlain Similar CDs

CD ReviewsA NEWSBOYS classic E. McLemore | 01/12/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "Good music for anyone to listen to at any age. Will put a smile on your face." One of their best albums! A. Bush | Newberg, OR USA | 08/22/2010 (5 out of 5 stars) "The Newsboys was my first favorite band, back when Christian music was all I listened to. Since then, I have broadened my tastes by miles, but I still enjoy nearly every single song on this album. It's catchy, upbeat, and clever. The lyrics aren't cheesy "Jesus is cool" nonsense that dumbs down the idea of the Christian faith. Rather, as is their policy, the Newsboys took this opportunity to create some really quality works that contain a solid message. One of the deepest songs on this album is the mellow but powerful "Believe," while the hit single "Entertaining Angels" delivers a simpler message with a seriously good tune. The introductory track, "Woohoo," is catchy and upbeat, leading into various nearly danceable tunes, and the album then winds down with the calm, quiet tracks "The Tide" and "Always." In short, there is a song for each type of music lover on this album.
I like all sorts of music now, but The Newsboys are still top notch in my book, and "Step up to the Microphone" is one of their most solid efforts. " |
