CD ReviewsA Matured, Finer New York Dolls Maggie Mae | Reno, Nevada | 06/22/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "Any true punk rock fan knows or has heard of the New York Dolls. Remember the start of glam/punk, tight black stretch pants and died hair? Many bands since they came out back then name The New York Dolls as an influence to their own music. These guys are known for their short, humorous, catchy punk rock songs. So David Johansen has come back with this Nw York Dolls release after thirty years of making music. This album features "We're All In Love", "Take a Good Look at my Good Looks" (nice title), and "Dance Like a Monkey" about evolution. But hey, you know if you've been playing music for that long. you have to naturally become respected and accomplished musicians, so the songs are slightly different. The Dolls have matured from the garage punk/out of tune sound. Truly matured they have." Heavy on Blues and Sleaze Rock Diane Mcgough | Lake Oswego, OR | 02/02/2010 (5 out of 5 stars) "You may remember the New York Dolls from many years ago when the band paved the way in the early pop/glam/punk movement. They broke up after only two proper albums. However, they've influenced many since then, so the fact that they now have a comeback album is close to a miracle. This record has more ballads like "Maimed Happiness" and "I Ain't Got Nothin'," but the better parts of the album are when original Dolls David Johansen and Syl Sylvain sound like their old selves. "Fishnets and Cigarettes" and "Dance Like a Monkey" are filled with their signature sleaze and off-the wall antics. Everywhere else the revamped lineup possesses a sound heavy on blues and sleaze rock. It even features the vocals of Michael Stipe from R.E.M. on "Dancing on the Lip of a Volcano." This is a terrific record, just terrific."
