"A NEW SONG brings a number of wonderful Twentieth Century sacred choral works together in one album. Classical fans will note such names as Samuel Barber, Francis Poulenc and Igor Stravinsky, but will enjoy exposure to some lesser-know composers and works of great integrity. Thankfully, this album contains Twentieth Century works spanning the century, so there are some romantic influences as well as "new" sounds. The music is quite accessible to the listener, not at all outlandish. I've had the pleasure of hearing the 65-voice professional National Lutheran Choir in concert on a number of occasions, and they are one of my all-time favorite choruses! The choir is absolutely "Lutheran" in how its sound is structured--emphasizing beautiful, rich tone colors, balance, blend, and phrasing. You'll find no opera chorus here! It also anchors a rich musical heritage representing a wide gamut of sacred art music of America as well as its European/Scandinavian roots. Conductor/Composer Larry L. Fleming brings great sensitivity and musicality to its work."
