their is nothing like this record on the planet....busta rhymes?.....please do not even compare...!~



you cannot even call this hip hop..as there is no hip hop like this on the planet...mayeb old dirty is a better comaprison...old dirty b with brains..and a background in new yorks bohemian pop/art culture....these cats know whats up ,but still manage to keep a rawness and realnesto their music that prevents it disinegrating into pseudo art/avant garde territory..

Winos with brains!

"There's no guitar solos, but plenty of fuzzy riffs and chunky grooves. And the MCee - Nosaj - is so old school: "I can't be confined/I'm livin in my prime/You see I never owned a watch/ But I know the time." And the Dj - Sebastian - is just ill. I mean quick cuts, deep beats, a Miles Davis sample, a Black Sabbath sample, and some crackly,smoked out poetry: "Shallow Senators/False Mouth Honor/Children,man/They're the Losers."
The whole vibe of this album is raw and live, very full of fresh ideas (for 93.)

I just think they both have the same energy and agression. But Busta lost his insight into the problems with society; Nosaj presents more political observations and commentary on civilization functioning as one big economic mechanichal monster:
"His gleaming splendor is so magnificent/His gleaming splendor is so insignificant/Your biggest attraction you thought unsinkable sunk/Your biggest attractions defunct."
Keep in mind this was written in 93, Nosaj has a lot of forsight, talking about Mother Nature swallowing Atlantis for not respecting their planet.
Their second album(and final,to date)'Paradise Don't Come Cheap'featured John Medeski on one track, and was a more sonic approach without as much of the upbeat, old school styles presented on 'Heavy Load'. Any rapper who quotes "Show me the way to the next Whiskey Bar" (The Doors)is down with me!!!

"Why aren't these guys getting any credit? Nosaj has got tons of style, and I know Busta had to have copped some of his flow. The bass is impossibly deep, the beats are unlike anything else that's broke in the 90's. Truly freaky, out there hip hop, worth a listen from any style, school, or Coast you claim affiliation to."
