Synopsis

Product Description
In this Volume Two follow up to the critically acclaimed Fletcher Henderson's Unrecorded Arrangements for Benny Goodman, Bob Wilber and the Tuxedo Big Band of Toulouse, France tackle more unrecorded arrangements by Henderson and by 14 more of Goodman's best writers, in addition to a Wilber original. They once again capture the essence of Goodman's style and sound but with their own fresh interpretations, making for the ultimate in big band swing.

CD Reviews

Unusual, great recreation of the Goodman band sound.

(4 out of 5 stars)

"This and the predecessor album are unique recordings. If you approach these recordings expecting to hear Goodman's unique tone you will be disappointed. If you love the Big Band sound and want to hear some great arrangements performed really well you will likely be very pleased. I LOVE the Goodman sound- my ear knows instantly the difference between Goodman and Shaw. These recordings fill in a gap I never knew existed, arrangements that Goodman never recorded for commercial release. Some of them seem rather dated, but for the most part they are wonderful, and show just how critical arrangers really were and are for a band. I would buy this again in a heartbeat and enjoy the good fidelity and the great sound. A random thought- how do we define the Goodman sound versus Shaw, T.Dorsey, etc? Original players, arrangers are dying off quickly, will future recreations lack a measure of authenticity due to this?"
