Synopsis

Album Description
Nell Bryden's debut album, DAY FOR NIGHT, is the first release from NY indie 157 Records. DAY FOR NIGHT ia an alternative rock record that combines layers of lush, orchestrated sounds with Nell's intimate and direct vocals. Nell blends postmodern influences like PJ Harvey with the modern sounds of U2 and Coldplay. Her lyrics are literate and personal, composing a record about doubt, strength, and reflection. DAY FOR NIGHT was conceived in New York and recorded at Oceanway Studios Nashville with producer, Fred Mollin. All tracks were recorded live in just three days.

CD Reviews

Hip and/or happening

"this is a cool cd. turn down the volume and it works well as bedtime music.. crank 'er up & you got some rockin' tunes. if you're into folk, 80's style chick-rock, pop-rock or the ever popular chick/folk/rock you'll dig this cd. i've played "day for night" for friends with interests ranging from indie-punk, to top 20, to indie-folk and it's gotten enthusiastic thumbs-up across the board. in short, :) this cd should be called "basic black" cuz it goes well with everything. buy it already.. stop reading reviews. what're you scared of? i'm telling you- "it's good". trust me."
Surprisingly Good

"I tend to hit the 'One Cent CD' stores on the web to sample different sounds and bands that I otherwise couldn't afford. I do buy some very dubious CDs called 'music' but that's how I got this...
...considering this is a debut, Nell Bryden sounds particularly polished as an artist although, for a couple of brief moments, one detects a little weakness in her voice.
But that's offset by the rockiness of the album that goes off at a tangentat two points to do an almost C&W track and a love ballad to a single piano.
White Rose is my favourite - an almost U2 sound (although Nell does just the one track like it unlike the 'other' band who does an entire album of the same beat!).
Her boredom to keep to one sound is refreshing although she does have a few tracks that have similar arrangements.
There's no expletives, either, which is notable although the lyrics are poetical at points rather than literal.
This is certainly a must buy if you like sampling new styles and artists. I don't think you'll be disappointed."
Nicely done & I just want more...

"This is a nice CD a decent range of songs. The music is strong but it is Nell voice that stands out. I hope to hear much more from her, hard to believe this is a debut album."
