Synopsis

Album Description
Long time Neck fans will recognize some of the tracks from the Necked CD, but everything has been re-mastered, with guitars to the front. So if you thought Necked was good, this will blow you away. For the last 5 years, the London-Irish band NECK have firmly established themselves as a leading force in the Punk-Folk scene. Lead vocalist and guitarist Leeson O'Keeffe become known for his work as band member of Shane MacGowan's Popes, and the band have performed internationally with acts such as Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphy's, Stiff Little Fingers, The Undertones & The Levellers. The 6 piece band's sound is filled with the spirit of Irish music: powerful guitars; fiddle; whistle; banjo; Irish bag-pipes and drums. Make no mistake, with Irish-folk influenced punk bands appearing all over the world, there are definitely leaders and followers, and with their roots and understanding of the music; NECK are most certainly the real deal!

Fast & loud & pumping smoke

(4 out of 5 stars)

""Here's Mud in Yer Eye" is exactly what you'd expect to hear from a band that grew up listening less to the Chieftains and the Dubliners, more to the Pogues and ... well, pretty much just the Pogues. The difference is, while a lot of those bands don't have the chops to pull off that kind of aggressive punk-Celtic slam blast, London-Irish band Neck bloody well does. The music is rowdy, maybe a little pissed off and audibly fueled by Bushmill's and stout.

The recording is filled with old faves and original tracks. The originals are a mixed bag, with the song "Topless Mary Poppins" turning out not to be half so good as the title would suggest, while the instrumental track "A Fistful of Shamrock" is a beautiful blast of music. As for the trad bits, anyone who's been in an Irish pub on a pivotal day of sport is going to love this rendition of "The Fields of Athenry."
