Mystic Prophecy's Heaviest Outing
A. Capistrant | USA | 11/09/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Mystic Prophecy

Satanic Curses (2007)

I have always enjoyed Mystic Prophecy and will continue to do so. The Prophecy returns with "Satanic Curses".

This is the second album without shredder Gus G., but I hardly noticed. Mystic have taken a new level of music to achive a excellent level of heaviness. Like the opening track, "Back From the Dark" features some awesome riffing. This is an excellent start. I however was a bit bored with "Sacrifice Me" as it does get tedious. Nothing really stands out there. "Dark Forces" signals a heavy return as well as the title track. Notice the riffing and total crushing guitars whaling on the listener like a wrecking ball!

Mystic Prophecy nearly became a death/thrash band with the opening of the track: "Evil of Destruction". Intense drumming and intense shredding all out! I enjoyed "Demon's Blood" as is a effective heavy metal track and "Damnation" just flat out rules.

However, I could not enjoy "Rock The Night". I would expect this from a 80's band or something but Mystic Prophecy? The lyrics are just not would the listener would ever expect. "We Will Survive" is another effective slab of heavy metal and the final track, "Grave of a Thousand Lies" is a decent closer.

Digipack bonus: Paranoid and We Fly. Mystic does well with a fine Black Sabbath cover and We Fly is basic Power Metal. Paranoid has not sounded that heavy!

The Production is clear and the music is the heaviest Mystic has ever gotten.

Cover art: Awesome.

Choice cuts: The title track, Evil of Destruction, Dark Forces

Forgettable ones: Sacrifice Me, Rock The Night

The Final Verdict: Recommended. Killer. Fans will not be dissapointed."
