"This is as good a performance of Scheherazade as I ever have heard. It has sweep and grandeur, with attention to detail, too. The principal violin is excellent, and the brass section produce beautiful tones with much sensitivity, a rare commodity for any brass. The sound engineering is spacious if a little lacking in impact. I couldn't stop listening to this CD. The Capriccio Espagnol is equally thrilling, filled with local character and sizzling rhythms. The Mussorgsky disc is excellent, too, if not quite as compelling as the Rimsky-Korsakov. Pictures gets a refined, almost epicurean performance, with considerable detail from the Oslo orchestra. Bald Mountain is thrilling, with pounding rhythms. The sound on this disc is warm and detailed, offering an almost chamber music subtlety to the orchestra. For Scheherezade alone, this set is a must."
