Volume I of the immensely popular Mozart Effect series of music attempts to do no less than "strengthen the mind." One thing is for certain: the music chosen on the disc by author and scholar Don Campbell--excerpts from Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 1; Violin Concerto, No. 3; Ein kleine nachtmusik; and others--includes some of the strongest pieces the composer wrote. Though the performers on this disc (Capella Istropolitana, Northern Chamber Orchestra, and violinist Takako Nishizaki) are far from world-class, this is still a delightful collection and one that--at least according to the liner notes--will increase your alertness and perhaps your IQ. Volume II features music for "rest and relaxation," while volume III will "unlock creative spirit." With music this entertaining, who can dispute these claims? --Jason Verlinde

CD Reviews

Takato Nishizaki and Mozart really make music

"In our day to day stressful lives an experiment was conducted a few years ago to demonstrate the effect of classical music on the action of mice. In the same experiment the background music was changed to the modern beat. The mice were able to perform all tests presented to them during Mozart interludes and were confused on the Mau Mau background music. How can anyone not like, enjoy absorb "Allegro from Piano Concerto # 1 in D K 107". This rendition is wonderful both from the artistry standpoint and the quality of the CD.As a pianist and a Mozart afficiendo I can honestly say this is a great CD. It really makes driving from Boston to the suburbs an experience. Bill Cridland Bolton MA"
Excellent music to work to!

"This CD provides an wonderful environment in which to work and concentrate. It is energizing enough to provide a benefit, but not intrusive. What is truly amazing, it least from my point of view, is that it can also be relaxing. I have no formal music training or knowledge. But, even to me, the music is enjoyable and interesting. Even if you do not necessarily like classical music, you will enjoy it."
Wonderful background music - anti-stress!

"I borrowed this CD from a co-worker after hearing it playing in his office. I was already interested in the Mozart effect after seeing how much my infant daughter loved her "Baby Mozart" video. I play this CD on my computer while I work in the office - I really think it keeps me more relaxed and focused while I'm working. I don't get as stressed out. I liked it so much that I did an internet search for it - thanks to Amazon.com, I'm ordering my own copy today. I also plan to play it in my car CD player - my daughter and I will both enjoy it! I highly recommend this CD."
