"This album is complete proof to anyone who didn't already know that Bernard "Bernie" Garfield is not just a legendary bassoonist and pedagogue, but also a composer of tremendous accomplishment and grace. His works for bassoon are fairly well known, and the works recorded here may well be the definitive versions, especially as his great protege John Clouser has made the recordings, on Bernie's old 7000 series Heckel bassoon, no less! I must say that I really enjoyed the solo piano pieces, too, but the works that really moved me are the three songs, very beautiful and affecting settings of poems by Thallis Hoyt, Thomas Dekker, and Edna St. Vincent Millay. Bravo Bernie!!"
