"The fact is Claudio Abbado is one of the leading conductors of our times, and this disc is a fine example of his work. His interpretation of the "Paris" symphony (No.31) may not be definitive, but it offers many new insights into the music. The rhythms are far from routine, particularly in the third movement, and the details of the orchestration are finely layered. I found Abbado's No.25 to be more enjoyable than the versions of Marriner, which have always been my personal favorite. And it's nice to have some rarities included, like the symphonic arrangement of the "Posthorn" serenade and the Masonic Funeral Music. This disc is sure to bring you much pleasure."
