Synopsis

Album Description
"I am sure he will like the Trio and the Quartet," wrote Mozart to his sister in June 1788 of the works on this recording, asking her to play them to Michael Haydn (brother of Joseph). Mozart himself loved playing chamber music, as both a pianist and string player, and this must have been an important reason why he wrote such original and vital music in this genre. Mozart's enthusiasm is reflected in our time in the remarkable career of pianist Diana Ambache, who has specialized for years in the music of Mozart, made seven CDs of his music, and founded the Ambache Chamber Orchestra to play it. The Ambache Chamber Ensemble, founded in 1984, is an offshoot of the orchestra and consists of its principals; it too plays only the music of Mozart and his contemporaries. Over the years the group has given regular performances at St. John's Smith Square and the South Bank, and recorded several Mozart CDs for the Meridian label. They toured the U.S. in 1987. Diana Ambache herself has toured extensively internationally, performing in thirty-three countries on five continents.
