"Sure the "mature" operas are "better," but ahhh, those delightful early ones. Like a face full of sunshine. I aim to buy them all. This performance is wonderful so I'd recommend it."
Pure delight

"One would not expect very much from very early Mozart, and it does not stand up to the later masterpieces. That said, this opera is a very pleasant as well intriguing work, as delightful as any contempoary buffa operas with which I am familiar with the possible exception of those by Haydn. This is a very good recording with strong voices and a good flow and presentation of the music."
Fun comedy, clear and delightful.......

"Schreier's version replaces the earlier, Orfeo full-priced set from Leopold Hager, particularly when it comes at mid-price on two discs instead of three. The digital recording is wonderfully clear, with a fine sense of presence, capturing the fun of the comedy. Ann Murray has never sung more seductively in Mozartthan here as Giacinta, and the characterful Barbara Hendricks is a delight in the central role of Rosina."

"Mozart - La finta semplice / Hendricks, Blochwitz, Lorenz, D. Johnson, Lind, Schreier is a great recording of one of the earlier Operas written by Mozart. It is under the direction of Peter Schreier. The vocal assembly includes such talents as Barbara Hendricks and Hans Peter Blochwitz to mention a few. Philips Classical Productions have created a massive book-let(244 pages all in all). This contains some very fine photographs of the singers and a strange cover for the album. The essay on the background of the Opera written by Carolyn Gianturco is very well-written and quite informative. So is also the sypnosis written by Rudolph Angermuller. The book-let also contains the text of the entire Opera in 4 different languages. Yes this is not nearly as refined as Mozarts later operas, yet this is after all Mozart and being that it is till a masterpiece compared to what most composers can accomplish. I give this recording 5 well deserved stars."
