"This is a fine recording of two of Mozart's greatest divertimenti. The sound engineering is full and detailed, although there isn't much bloom on the string sound. The string players are rather chaste in their tone and accents. You won't mistake the Gaudier for a Viennese group like the Boskovsky Ensemble. But on its own terms, this is fine music making. For the second divertimento, there have been classic recordings by the Collegium Aureum on original instruments and in monaural by the Vienna State Opera Orchestra under Felix Prohaska. The Prohaska was on a Vanguard CD. I don't feel that the Gaudier Ensemble's performance is as memorable as the other two, but it accomplishes a great deal in its own right and may be preferred by people who like their Mozart serenades and divertimenti somewhat streamlined."
