CD ReviewsAnother understated masterpiece kevin | USA | 01/10/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "When I first listened to The Sand & The Stars, I didn't think it was quite up to the level of their last release, the fantastic The Blossom Filled Streets. But has grown on me considerably over the last month. While it still has the dreamy, barely present quality of the last album, this one is a little more focused and more intimate. It's also more folkie, with almost a Leonard Cohenish feel to a couple of the songs (like "In Mexico" and "Pale Tracks"). Stand out tracks include the slowly building "Snow is Falling" and the delicate "Let Night In". My favorite album of this millennium so far." More Beautiful Sounds From the Best Band on the Planet calebdove | Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada | 04/16/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "Movietone continue to stir up images of empty seasides, lonely houses and flying birds. If there is anyone out there making music as beautiful as this, I've yet to hear it. The addition of Sam (Crescent) Jones' vocals on "Pale Tracks" is a welcome intrusion on the normally quiet, sombre vocals of the ladies; and a further step toward the amalgamation of both bands' sound (listen to the new, decidedly calmer Crescent LP "By the Roads and Fields"). Do yourself a favor and pick up this and their other releases. They are life-affirming." Authenticity in sound John Mcgruther | Glasgow | 04/26/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "I would say this is my favourite Movietone album. Very organic-sounding, and it still has that fragile and hesitant feel which seems to be their trademark. The production is quite raw and direct, so it doesn't have the echoy mystique of "Day and Night", but I find it more warm and friendly than the other albums, as if the band are there in the room with you."
