"There is not arguing here on who are pioneers in creating, producing and playing FUNK ROCK in capital letters. Mother's Finest, are a multi racial band from Macon, Georgia, and during the early seventies had to fight against the indifference of their time due to the colour of their skin and their excellent funk, soul, pop melted with heavy rock style.
Unfortunately, they did not reach the mainstream status but they are still alive and kicking.
This excellent re-issue of their Epic Records album is a good example of what they were (are) and features a plus in form of two live bonus tracks :'My Baby' (Live, Europe 1979), 'Rain' (Live, Europe 1979).
Also, it is a good chance to discover one of the first productions by the renowned hard rock producer Tom Werman (Cheap Trick, Ted Nugent...) who signed them to their record label, and also get shocked by the beautiful and powerful voice of the amazing Joyce 'Baby Jean' Kennedy."

"A neglected funk/rock classic 'Mothers Finest' celebrates an underated yet seminal US rock band. The first multi-racial rock/soul band from the Deep South their music sounds fresh and vital. With two superb lead vocalists in Joyce 'Baby Jean'Kennedy and Glen Murdoch the pairing resembles Ike and Tina Turner fronting a red hot 70s rock/soul band. This is hot stuff from 'Fire' to 'Give you all the love (inside of me)' it just kills. Rock solid rhythms, searing guitar work and first class vocals its all here. It still sounds great. Check it out."
