Worth buying alone just for the Ustvolskaya

"but the Pelecis and Gorecki pieces are interesting also. I have about 4 different recordings of the Gubaidulina which speaks for itself, so no comment needed. The Ustvolskaya is harrowing and beautiful, composed in the 40's and one can feel Shostakovich's influence on her music clearly here. Much, much different then her other cerebral works and more firmly lodged in "classical" notions.
The Gorecki is pretty interesting, but the surprise was the Pelecis, whom I had never heard of. A bizarre work, plinky and high-spirited, yet sounds serialist to me. Hope to see more of his music recorded..."
