VERVE did not have very many vocalists on their roster but she is surly one of the best for me.Her sound is the opposite of Dakota Staton with a projection like Gloria Lynne.
The album is made mostly of ballads and she fits -in her tight sequined dress headlining an intimate jazz club like her contemporaries Nancy Wilson, Valerie Carr. Julie London, and others. The arraignments by the VERVE house leaders with Creed Taylor producing add this album up with the better efforts of Ella and Sassy and Carmen during their strings period during the late 50's thru the 60's." |
