Monteverdi at his best

"A beautiful recording of these madrigals: very free and musical. At times it sounds like spring through my headphones ! Other times it is as dark as Ockeghem. Text treatment is excellent (what do you expect from Italians ...) Now such a superb recording might come as a surprise from such a relatively unknown group. However, many members of La Venexiana were in Concerto Italiano, which have recorded some other wonderful interpretations of Italian masters."
Sophisticated, clear, fresh

"This is more a follow-up of Monteverdi's second book than a herald of his fourth book.
I have this 3rd book both sung by Rooley's the Consort of Musicke and by La Venexiana. The Concort of Musicke sung with a thick enthusiasm and had a 'synthetic' approach, whereas La Venexiana sings slightly colder and has a more 'analytic' approach. This is a luxury production; high definition, sophisticated, clear, fresh, young and luminous. As the other reviewer writes: It is like spring!"
