CD Reviews
Best Vinnie album in years!!!!

"One of the reasons that this is so is because what jeff babko and Jeff coffin came up with for the music has been one of the best environments for Vinnie to do what he does in a long time. The music is super funky and hard hitting. I have a lot of records with Vinnie Colaiuta on them and this is one of the best because the music ain't "cheesy". And lets face it, some of those records vinnie colaiuta is on are pretty fusion cheesy. Get this s**t instead!!!"
The baddest album on the planet.

"This is one of the most exciting cds I have bought in a very long time. Being a drummer myself, having Vinnie on ANY record is a perk. However, after consistently seeing Jeff Babko perform at The Baked Potato in Los Angeles every month for three years now, I can truly say he is a musical genius. He's just as exciting everytime, and always bringing something fresh and tasteful. The fact that he's the brainchild behind Mondo Trio is grounds enough for major admiration."
Mr Colaiuta.... no words...

"I think this CD is more for a drums fanatic than... Colaiuta show us more things than the others two musicians. They are very impressive also, they demonstrate us many thinsg but... again... Colaiuta make a masterclass with this CD.
I recommend it to a drummers and specially those who loves the style and musicality of Vinnie.
Thanks!"
If you're too close, stand back a little.

"I've spoken to these guys first hand about this album. (insidemusicast.com). And it makes sense what they were trying to do. But, to really appreciate MONDO TRIO, you have to stand back and hear these musicians collaborate from a different angle. The FIRST reviewer obviously didn't have the ability to do this...not that his comments were all bad, but just totally missed what Babko, Colaiuta, and Coffin were doing. Just read the other reviews. If one's expectations were to hear these three mega-musician-monsters do their "same old stuff" (which is all amazing, anyway), then this album is not for you...and you won't like it. You have to put your expectations aside and be open. I must say, it's complex music to listen to...not easy....but it IS music you can appreciate. What I mean is...when you're eating a big, juicy, meaty steak, you enjoy it sloooowly. In the same way, you just don't scarf down this album....you have to take it in a bit at a time. Then, the album begins to be totally fun. Do the guys let loose? Sure. So has Parker, Marsalis, Trane, Rich and so many others...this is fusion/jazz at it's best. This album is the true definition of "three-layer" improvisation. And it works...every minute of it. This is definately an extremely BRAVE album to put out....that's why I love the whole album. EC"
