"2004's Box of Fear is the second album from Swedish band Mister Kite. I picked this album up on clearance not knowing what to expect, and am surprised at just how much I am digging it.



I can't seem to decide whether Mister Kite is a metal band or just a hard rock band, and in the end I guess that doesn't matter. They have a very interesting sound that is somewhere between Dream Theater (the more accessible, Pull Me Under kind of DT, not the 12-minute instrumental fest DT) and the modern melodic rock of Harem Scarem. They're progressive in the same way that Evergrey is, and have a very accessible, decidedly dark sound that by all rights should be tearing up the modern rock charts. You could absolutely throw songs like "Into Nothing" and "How Long" in the average US rock radio station's playlist in between Alter Bridge and Staind. Sadly, we all know that will never happen.



Box of Fear is a completely rocking album that should appeal to anyone interested in high quality melodic hard rock music. There really is something in Mister Kite's sound for everyone. I just wish I had discovered them earlier!
