"To date, only one track from this album has been released as a single. Scar (Track 3) caught my attention sufficiently to inspire me to buy the album, but isn't the best this singer/songwriter has to offer. This is a collection of songs with the honesty and musicality of sarah mclachlan minus the maudlin sentimentality. The arrangements are gorgeous and umcomplicated, and Missy's voice and conversational lyrics capture the down to earth, 'real' feeling fo the album. If you like strong female talent, Sarah McLachlan, Norah Jones, Katie Melua, Keri Russell, or Michelle Branch, get into Missy Higgins."
A Great Album

"I came across Missy Higgins while listening to DIG Australian Radio on the Internet. On Missy's web site, you can preview all 13 tracks in their entirety - so there's no risk that you'll buy 12 tracks of filler to get the one song you like. The site works like a CD Player, so you can load it and enjoy. With that said, I find myself:
1. Compelled to go back to the site often to play the tracks and,
2. Buy the CD even though I can run it free off my computer.
Comparisons to Nora Jones and Sara McLachlan are a bit unfair, although folks who like Nora and Sara might like Missy as well. Americans will find her Australian accent quite nice. The music is simple and not overproduced. If you find this music doesn't suit you, like other reviewers, simply move on. There's nothing to trash here. She writes her own music and comes across as a real person. Either you like it or you don't. Again, you can run through the whole album before committing, then come back and buy from Amazon. Given the cost of the import and the availability of the music, I'd opt to wait for the release in the United States, however."
The sound of heaven

"The Sound of White is the debut album from Australian singer/songwriter Missy Higgins. I recently picked it up after months of speculation, but now wish I hadn't waited. This is truly one of the finest albums I have heard in recent years. Where do I begin? The breathtaking title track sends shivers up my spine every time, and then there is the beautiful "Ten Days" and the latest single "Special Two". More fine tracks fill a great collection. The piano player is just mesmerising. The only fault I have with the album is the very first single "Scar" which I have never liked, it does feel out of place on the album (in my opinion). Aside from this very minor detail, I highly recommend Missy's debut album to all. Do what you can to get a copy."
Smooth and emotion driven

"My friends in Australia shipped this CD to me so I could hear for myself what the hype in Australia was all about.
The album is very playable and I love the mellow melodic sound of Higgins voice on tracks like Scar, The River and The Special Two. Another reviewer bad mouthed this album because they said they couldn't dance to this music. Well they are right, this isn't dance music. This is well crafted and beautifully sung music. Higgins voice has a unique earthy quality to it that is a welcome change to the over produced pop drivel being pushed down our throats by the music labels this year."
Fresh Wind

"I was just song-surfing on Yahoo's Launch when I happily stumbled upon this amazing young Australian singer/songstress. Missy Higgins is the freshest wind that has blown in the music industry in years. I immediately looked up her website and she has several videos which can be viewed. I won't even bother trying to compare her with anyone, because, as far as I am concerned, no one else (as far as new talent in the past five years) is even in the same building. Just take the time to check this young lady out! You will definitly be blessed!"
