"Anyone who's seen an episode of iCarly is already aware that Miranda Cosgrove can carry a tune - she sings the show's opening theme. But can she carry a whole album? Happily, the answer is yes.
The tracks on "Sparks Fly" are fun and generally upbeat, and many are filled with quirky lyrics and hooks that keep the album entertaining from start to finish. For instance, the Ke$ha ("Tik, Tok") penned "Disgusting" is all about being completely disgusted with yourself for being so in love with a guy, and "Oh, Oh" features an unique sound effect throughout the chorus and verses.
Several of the songs, such as "Disgusting," "BAM," "Oh, Oh" also have an 80's feel that should help the album appeal to adults, while the tweens can appreciate the more straight-forward teen pop feel of "Kissin U" and "Daydream." Other standouts include "Shakespeare," "Brand New You," "Beautiful Mess" and "There Will Be Tears," the latter of which shows of the lower range of Cosgrove's vocals.
On the negative side, some of the ballads do weigh the album down a bit - "Hey You" is a bit forgettable, and Cosgrove's voice sounds a bit strained on the higher notes of "What Are You Waiting For," although the song itself is pleasant enough to warrant a few repeated listens anyway.
All in all, "Sparks Fly" is a solid and enjoyable debut album full of ear-candy for just about any pop music fan. And you'll definitely want to purchase the deluxe version of the album - the four extra songs are well worth it.

"I had been waiting for her album to come out for a while and I wasn't disappointed! I can't get the songs "Kissing U" and "Disgusting" out of my head! I did like the ballads and am eagerly awaiting her next album whenever she makes it! I could listen to her sing for hours and hours! I am also eagerly waiting for her to start touring because I would LOVE to see her sing in person! My only wish is that she come to my town on a day that I could go and see her! Great album!!"

"I bought this for "Kissin U" but was surprised and pleased to find the entire album is just amazing. These songs are diverse and inspired and really showcase Miranda's incredible talent. Love it!"

"With the exception of "Kissing You" I am not in love with this album. It's not really just this album but a lot of newer ones these days. I am 26 and have been listening to teen pop since I could listen to music but now it all seems so repetitive and redundant to me. Kind of sad that I am growing up. She has an amazing voice and is very talented but it is just not my cup of tea anymore. Other than my personal taste, I think others will be quite pleased with the outcome!"
Good enough simple pop

"For the typical target (tween, teen girl, iCarly fan), the album will hit the mark. But for parents forced to listen along in the car, the full album can become grating. I wanted to like it more but only 2 songs were ones I'd buy as singles. Miranda's a good role model with a bright future so I am sure we will hear better things from her as her musical career continues."
