Good Ministry Comp with a Disc 1 stand-out

"I tend to be hard on Ministry of Sound. For instance, I disagree with the way sometimes their DJ's mix everything into the other, regardless of if it makes sense or not. But on this compilation I must say that I was pretty impressed. IMO, anyone can really make a "chillout" comp. I'd almost say no label has saturated the market more than Ministry of Sound. But this release is very strong and they succeed to offer something here that's outstanding - a semi-mixed chillout cd with quality/relatively unknown cuts that never goes too abstract. CD 1 is definitely the stronger of the two in this set. It kicks off with Ministry's own Jakatta, followed up with the adventures Lemonjelly and Bent. Chris Coco, Bonobo, Wasis Diop, The Cinematic Orchestra, Tom & Joyce, Ravi and Songhai all chip in with some great sounds from around the globe. Ive Mendes song is dripping with sexiness in her remake of Chicago's "If You Leave me Now". However where CD one falls short is with the Mary Poppins like remix of Koop's cut, Oakenfold's cut didn't strike me and the Moby cut seems extremely soul-less. CD two is a much more upbeat exploration of global and India sounds. All of the cuts on that CD are geared in that direction. Stand-outs are Nacho Sotomayor's, S-Tone Inc's, Thievery Corporation's and A:xus cuts. But this CD has some seroius fillers in it and Ministry probably could have done better with the track selection and order of CD 2. Having said that, I still recommend this set. It's stronger to me than last year's release and does have some tremendous songs."

"This along with Karma Collection (1st volume) is the best collection of slick instrumentals with an asian and indian spiritual touch and an introduction to some fabulous artists. I recommend getting both the collections."

"The album is decent but it was definetely not worth what I paid. It has good tracks but I think it would be better if you heard them first and them purchased them individually because the album as a whole is not a good investment. I also thought that the fact that they included Punjabi MC in a "chillout" album was unnecessary and distasteful."
