Synopsis

Album Description
One of Milton Nascimento's most experimental albums, Milagre Dos Peixes was originally released in 1974. It can be said that this album was especially suited for the talents of percussionist Nana Vasconcelos, who adds so much life to it. In addition to Vasconcelos, Nascimento works here with some of Brazil's most innovative jazz players of the '70s -- Nelson Angelo, Toninho Horta, Paulo Moura, and Wagner Tiso -- all of whom come together in complicated yet honest arrangements. Titles include "Milagre Dos Peixes," "Pablo," "A Chamda," "Os Escravos De Jo," and "Sacramento." New detailed liner notes and original artwork.

CD Reviews

Censored classic
Lee Tomboulian | Appleton, WI | 09/30/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"North/South ConvergenceCreated at a time of extreme censorship in Brazil, when the military dictatorship would make lyricists submit lyrics over and over to purge them of any protest content, Milton finally gave up rewriting some songs and instead sang wordlessly. He then buried his singing in the mix, under tons of percussion and Nana's yodeling and other vocals. The effect is startling, particularly if you're used to Milton's uncensored American versions of the same songs.

A strange but compelling listen. Not for Milton beginners."
