CD Reviews

Million dead are a million times better!
L. Hogston | UK | 11/01/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I first heard of the band whilst vegging away in front of the TV. Million dead's 'Breaking the back' video came on. Julia (the bassist) caught my eye. so i decided to watch it. Little did i know that this was to be one of the best songs ive heard in a good long while. The album itself is full of energy and every note is struck or sung with a passion. Pornography for cowards is a manic and enthralling start to a complete and superb album.
Stand out tracks include 'pornography for cowards', 'breaking the back' and 'the rise and fall'. The band were nominated for 'best british newcomer' at the kerrang awards and deservedly so. In my opinion, million dead are much better than the ever popular(and commercialised) 'funeral for a friend' because of their more aggressive and firey approach to the post hardcore scene. Due to this, i feel the album doesnt sound quite so obvious and is therefore a better buy. Reach out for your bank card and buy this slice of british excellence now! I guarantee satisfaction."
Best hardcore/screamo/extremo band in the world

"This a brilliant debut from what has to be the worlds best extremo band. Most of the other extremo bands around are quite lame as they have a commercial sound, whereas million dead have come from nowhere and have a much more genuine and fierce sound. The first track is mental and the vocals are just brilliant. The rest of the album follows this song at break-neck speed only stopping for 'a song to ruin' which is the only slow song which is also incredibly good. the stand-out tracks are 'breaking the back', 'smiling at strangers on trains' and 'I am the party'. If your thinking of buying 'casully dressed and deep in conversation' by funeral for a friend (which i own), get this instead it will blow you away!!"
Ace!

"This is one awesome album. I got it out of pure curiousity because I heard so much about Million Dead, yet never truly heard them. Then once track 1, Pornography for Cowards got around my ears, it wouldn't let go. Breaking the Back is another great song, but my personal favorite is A Song to Ruin. Smiling at Strangers on Trains is good too, and Charlie and the Propaganda Myth Machine is probably the greatest song name ever, haha. I'll admit, the rest of the songs took a few listens to appreciate, but once I got used to them, they were good. The lyrics are pretty good too, and this is coming from a person who really doesn't listen to lyrics.

For fans of hardcore, rock, metal, I don't care, get this album. I can't wait for MD's new album, but it sucks they don't have their original guitarist anymore, I really hope the new guy does a good job and doesn't change their sound too much. I even missed out on a chance to see MD in London last year, the last show with their original guitarist. I hadn't heard anything from MD at the time, so I didn't bother to see a band I never heard of. Boy, was that a MAJOR mistake! Now I'll probably never see them at all, since I got word that they may not tour the U.S.A. until late '05 or early '06.

Anyways, I'm ranting here. Just buy or import this album, whatever you have to do. Too bad they don't have a proper distribution deal here, yet. Alot of new rock music coming out here in the U.S.A. absolutely SUCKS. I'm glad Funeral for a Friend is finally making their way over here, now it's just Million Dead's turn."
