CD ReviewsWORTHY... Hugh Jassman | SLC, UT USA | 03/06/2009 (3 out of 5 stars) "overall a really well rounded record. i can really see the evolution of this band take place as i have been a fan for ten years. in my honest opinion, out of their seven studio albums (eight if you're including "melancholy collection"), this album would rank possibly 6th or 7th best. that's not to say it's awful. in fact, compared to most other music in the genre i'd have to say it's flawless. but it isn't up to snuff with their other works, as i feel it is a tad overproduced. i think that the band's longing to create another masterpiece like "pennybridge pioneers" is clouding their creative genius.
notable tracks include the hard hitting title track "machine 15" as well as "brand new game", a return to form and my personal favorite of the album, and the radio friendly "detox". "vicious circle" is another great song that happens to fly under the radar and shows how diverse their sound has become. if you're a longtime fan you would be a fool not to give it a go. i love the album, i listen to it constantly. the reason i have to rate it at only three stars is it's not their best work, some of the songs sound generic and the album as a whole sounds a bit overproduced. but definitely check it out." |
