The Best Punk Rock Album Ever
Dustin J. G. Griffin | Calgary, Alberta | 04/02/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Yes, I think Millencolin's Home From Home is, in my opinion, the best punk rock album of all time. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's the most important punk album, or the most influential or original or anything like that, but it is the best of the stuff that's out there. I've been listening to punk a LONG time, and enjoyed Millencolin for the most part. I have a few other albums and they're all good efforts, but nothing could prepare me for this one. I went into a record store and had a listen to the first track, Man or Mouse, and it absolutly blew me away. I immediatly bought the album and have held it at the top of my collection ever since. Millencolin's songwriting has come a long way since Pennybridge! That little extra angst really helped them find a great sound. The reason this album is the best is because it is the ultimate punk album. Every song is a perfect 10! If I were to ever get emotional over a record man, this is it!!"
Good stuff, but a step backward for Millencolin...

"I'm not a music nerd or anything, but I have every Millencolin album. Home From Home is probably my least favorite, but it's still pretty solid stuff, especially when you think about the year it was released and all the other crap released at the same time. There are a few songs on here that I really like, namely, Happiness for Dogs and Fingers Crossed. There are also a few more that I really don't like, mainly because they are hokey. Yes, sadly, I'll admit that Millencolin does have a fair streak of hokiness in them. Think about all the crappy ska songs they've made. This album has a few along the same line. I hate that stuff. The worst on here is Punk Rock Rebel, a terrible song that nearly brings the album to crashing halt half way through. But just weather it out. It won't kill you, but it sure might hurt. As much as I like Millencolin, I need to rant about their live performance. I caught their act a few years back in Salt Lake City. The band had two absolutly terrible bands open for them, then they were almost an hour late taking the stage. They played an uninspired set, only about 45 minutes, and then left, did a quick encore, and left again. They didn't say much, didn't interact with the crowd...it almost seemed like they were just doing a job up there. I only paid about 16 bucks for the ticket, but still, I thought it was going to be a great show and it sucked pretty bad. So yeah, they suck live. But their music is still some of the best out there. Pick up some of their earlier stuff. Trust me."
