Synopsis
Product Description Drummer Mike Clark, the funkmaster, now shows us that he is a jazzmaster. The bicoastal musician, known primarily for his phenomenal drumming on the landmark Headhunters album by Herbie Hancock, has chosen top players from both Los Angeles and New York for this CD. They perform a variety of tunes, including two jazz classics by Wayne Shorter, originals by Jeff Pittson, Frank Perowsky and Ben Perowsky, a very unique treatment of George Gershwin's Summertime, and much more. Mike is joined by pianist Billy Childs, saxophonists Chris Potter and Bob Sheppard, trumpeter Jack Walrath, and bassists James Genus and Robert Hurst. Similar CDs

CD ReviewsAstounding music from the inimitable Mr. Clark Harriet Tulle | New York City | 02/10/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "Wow! Who knew funk's favorite rhythm maker (and the most sampled drummer in hip hop) could lay it down in the jazz vein like this? Having caught his New York gigs over the years, I knew, but it seems to have been a secret in the larger music community. This is simply one of the most stunning works to come out this year. The title track is an uncanny rendition of an old favorite and Angelica haunts. Beautiful work by Jack Walrath and Chris Potter. Billy Childs, another undersung hero, smokes. Cookin'! I highly recommend."
