"A wonderful band with such emotion and talent between the two brothers and chief song writers. To me this has always been the band that could, but unfortunately, rarely did. Past albums showed a glimmer of hope and even a few tracks that were brilliant. But they always covered their amazing songs with overplaying, jamming if you will. And this jamming got them lumped in with a series of jam bands, who in reality couldn't hold a candle to these lads. Well, "How To Make A Living" is the wonder that had eluded them. Purely wonderful song craft with some of the most lush and beautiful guitar playing put to disk. These songs show Steven at his best, honest and straight with such integrity that we are honestly lucky to listen to. We are as well gifted to be able to hear Jon play guitar. He understands his instrument better then most people do their own limbs. Both Jon and Steve bring us into their experiences with such reality, that we feel we have lived them as well. They finally recorded an album that they were meant to, lovely indie tinged rock with all the elemnts that make great writers great. Worth every once of your attention."
Mighty Purple: Mightier than Ever

"New Haven's best kept secret, may no longer be so well kept as Mighty Purple releases their sixth collective effort in under ten years, How to Make a Living. It is a travesty that this band has not yet broken-through with national success, but their day shall assuredly come if efforts like this continue to be produced. This group is the next real thing. (Steve Rodgers v/g, Jon Rodgers v/g/p/ accordion, Adrian Van De Graaff b/v, and Scott McDonald d/p). Line up all the talent that is out there right now such as Days of the New, Creed and Third Eye Blind among others and it still won't compare to the lads of Mighty Purple. The new album, How to Make a Living, validates this bold statement with fifteen tracks that will leave you wanting more.... What Coltrane did to the Jazz world, beginning in the late 50's, Mighty Purple is doing to Modern-alterna Rock in the beginning of the 2000's by turning chord verse chord inside out and giving a new level to strive for in music. ...The only thing to do now is to check them out on tour or to do yourself a favor and buy this latest release by Mighty Purple immediately, if not sooner, if you don't already have it."

"I have followed Mighty Purple for many years now, and this album is their most polished effort yet. It lacks some of the raw emotion of "Bohica" or "Black River Falls", but the musicianship is worlds cleaner and the band is tighter than ever. Keep the train rolling, boys."
Newer Sound, Mightier Band!

"The new CD is great. I attended the CD release concert at Toad's Place in their hometown, New Haven, CT. After the a line of fabulous new songs I went over to the vendor and bought the CD, and a second one for a friend. Since then I've attended 2 other concerts. Although I wouldn't say "How to Make A Living" is far better than their previous CD's it is definitly worth the dough. Its a newer sound that seems to combine the crecendos and spooky solo/jams of Pink Floyd , with the qualities from more contemporary bands such as Radiohead, Phish, and the modern pop rock stars. However Imagine their previous CD's mixed with this new one-LIVE! thats what their concerts are like: Unbelievable! BUY IT! Fav. Songs: No One Is God and Keep My Head Above Water"

"Outstanding! High Energy.....and at times soulful. Their best yet ! A fresh sound with lyrics to match when everything else seems to be sounding the same. Great musical composition, with a nice diverse mix of sound and style. The only question..........Will it get the radio sound play it deserves! Sometimes music lovers "just don't want Vanilla". Catch a show...or pick up this great new CD and see for yourself! Go ahead! I dare you!"
