Another feline to love

"Yeah, that was bad. But I listen to so much music that sometimes I don't even remember where I heard of some artists; such is the case with the band Midnight Movies. Whatever the case, I can't find a single thing wrong with their album Lion the Girl.
I'm also not sure how many people are IN the band (their biography on allmusic.com lists three members, but then this album claims to feature five members; then there are only FOUR members on the album cover), but I'll still say that lead vocalist Gena Olivier has a nice voice that carries over the equally nice backdrops. Highlights that come to mind include "Coral Den", "Hide Away" and the single "Patient Eye". Another standout is "Dawn", a short but sweet instrumental.
If you like `80s-era Annie Lennox (not that Ms. Lennox is bad NOW, though), then you'll definitely like this. So grab some popcorn, a tall glass of soda, and enjoy some midnight movies.

Easily the best new album I've gotten in years

"I heard the song "Lion Song" one time, and liked it a lot. I got this album for that one song, and hoped I wouldn't be disappointed.
This whole album is excellent. Way beyond anything I expected.
I like the songs as individual songs, and I also like the album as a whole. "Lion the Girl" is a rare combination of one of those discs where the whole album works together and builds a cohesive and satisfying whole (like Disintegration or like Too Dark Park), and that also has several standout individual tracks.
The music itself reminds me of The Velvet Underground. The interplay and weaving of the instruments and multiple interesting things going on at once. A simultaneous mellowness and intensity, with occasional extremes at both end.
I wish there was more music similar to this, and as good as this."
The Best CD/Album of 2007!!!

"Midnight Movies is an awesome band! Lion The Girl is the best album of 2007!! I listened to Souvenirs on my local indie radio station and have been hooked ever since!! The whole album is great although my favorites now seem to be track 1, 6, and 11.
There are few bands out now with this level of talent. All of the members seem to play very well. The band is very well integrated.
I am so tired of the music industry now and it is refreshing to see a band that actually sounds great! So much emphasis is on the "look" but no substance. Midnight Movies has a great sound and Gena has such an incredible voice!!
If you are considering this album but are not sure I would suggest you buy it!! You will not regret it, and you may just be really happy you did!!
