CD ReviewsOh My Goodness! What An Album! J. Rich | 12/16/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "Michel Petrucciani was 18 years old when he recorded his second album for Owl Records in 1981. What we have here is a young piano master who went on to become one of the most incredible jazz pianists in the world.
Having said that, this album is one Petrucciani's best albums in my opinion. His work is testament to what the piano is capable of doing within a jazz piano trio format. He carried the tradition forward while always looking ahead. That's one thing that I admired about Petrucciani was his passion for jazz. He was a man of taste and class. He never played a note that didn't mean something. A truly lyrical pianist whose technique would make Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson have a heart attack. This album has been re-released and remastered by Sunny Side Records and what a great job they did. Since it is a 1981 recording, it's going to sound a bit dated, but don't let a year stop you from enjoying what I think is one of his finest albums. Highly recommended for fans of jazz piano and for Petrucciani fans. Musicians: Michel Petrucciani - piano Aldo Romano - drums Jean-François Jenny-Clark - bass " |
