For This Moment, a Warm Place for the Spirit

"The term "Contemporary Christian music" has become a catch-all phrase, inclusive of everything from homogenized, pre-fab pop (leaving the entire genre vulnerable to endless pop culture in-jokes) to honest, real-deal music inspired both by Scripture and life experience, as fans of the likes of John Michael Talbot, Rich Mullins and Larry Norman can attest to. Michael Zabrocki's "For This Moment" falls into this latter category, paying as much attention to musicianship and the songwriting craft as to the inspiration for the lyrical content.
"For This Moment" is a contempletive collection of material that would be as comfortable in a hymnal as a coffee house, with warm, tasteful production by brother Ron Zabrocki. Lush but restrained background vocals abound, with organic arrangements setting the backdrop for Michael's heartfelt lyrics. This is music for the quiet place in the soul, and makes one glad to find time to spend there. The title track offers a perspective on the recent chaotic state of the world, as well as some insight into the nature of God's will and how one might try to surrender to it. Songs like "Welcome Sweet Morn" and "Unless a Grain of Wheat" explore the faith experience while offering comfort and hope.
Michael Zabrocki is a Catholic/Christian artist, but this record blurs the lines of distinction and focuses on the commonality of all Christians, without ever making the music itself secondary. "For This Moment" is a sublime joy from beginning to end, and if you or someone you love has a heavy heart these days, this album will provide a place of comfort and renewal."
