"This was Michael Weiss' first recording as a leader back in 1986. I used to hear him in those days with the Junior Cook-Bill Hardman Quintet, just before he joined Johnny Griffin. This CD has an interesting balance of standards and rarely played gems such as Monk's Gallop's Gallop and Joe Zawinul's Riverbed. Weiss is a very tasty soloist and accompanist, and you can hear is conscienciousness as an arranger as well. The group is well chosen and plays with sympatico. This music is in the tradition, but with a modern touch. I thouroughly recommend it."
