"Honestly, I was never a big Stryper fan. I liked some of their stuff and think they were a good band. I liked Michael Sweet's voice. Yet the music of Stryper was average for 80s bands. I could have done without the spandex and its worldly emulation. Nonetheless, the solo effort "Truth"in my opinion is of better quality than any Stryper release. Although, if you took a compilation of some of the best songs from Stryper, I would think twice. Either way, this CD is serious in the Christian sense. It does not have Michael Card lyric quality, but its message can be summarized as the struggling saint who wants to live in the light. The song "Blue Bleeds Through" is just a beautiful and catchy melody; His voice is excellent on this song. Moreover, the song "Save Me" is a powerful hard rock song. A Great album overall with MAYBE only one weak song."
Different release with different songs

"This album has some songs from the other truth release but has some songs not on that release either. This was self re;eased before picked up by a major label years later to be mass produced. Obviously making this more rare and harder to obtain. Though you need to own both "truth" cds for a full collection. Hope this helps

Michael Sweet's best work to date.

"I've been a Stryper/Michael Sweet fan since 1985 when I first bought "Soldiers Under Command." I was initially disappointed when Michael left the band in 1992 to pursue a solo career, but then became intrigued with the prospect of what his solo material might be like and how it might compare with his work with Stryper. I thought his self-titled 1994 debut was OKAY, but I was much more impressed with his largely acoustic follow-up "Real" (1995). But "Truth" blows away both of its predecessors. Musically, this is Michael's most diverse release to date, and the lyrics show much growth and maturity. Some standout tracks include "I Am Adam," "Save Me," "The Ever After," "Achilles Heel," "Stone" and the title track. Fellow Stryper guitarist Oz Fox plays a guest solo on "The Ever After." "Truth" is Michael Sweet's best release to date, and I look forward to hearing more music from Michael, both with Stryper and as a solo artist."

"When the apparent disintegration of Stryper had taken place back in the early 1990's it was obvious that the band member most likely to succeed on his own was its talented frontman, Michael Sweet. What ensued over the next few years was a lot of poppy fluff that sounded like it belonged in a Best-of-Zondervan ad. Enter 2002, when I picked this up in haste after a brief listening of the opening track. Wow.
The truth of "Truth" is that it shatters every negative perception that befell Stryper (even though they were one of my favorites in the '80s). Not only is the production quality and vox there but this was a lyrical effort to be reckoned with. Mike Sweet delves into many painfully intimate subjects with boldness and candor in an LP effort that rivals anything by Stryper (this is what I expected with Reborn..argh!). Vocally, he's never sounded better. Gone are the shrieking vibratos and hyperspace solos...in their place are a profound power and passion. Just about every track on this is a keeper.
Of note are "I am Adam" and "The Ever After"; the latter having an incredible solo courtesy of Oz Fox--it seems like 1988 all over again. Again, don't expect any overt evangelical anthems-tracks like "Blue Bleeds Trough" are brimming with lyrical genius and depth.
Swan song? Perhaps. An essential for your collection? Absolutely."
