GREATEST RIFFS

"One disc 77 minutes approximately. The sound on the studio recordings is crisp and clean, while the live tracks are lacking a bit in crispness, but make up for it in atmosphere.

Wow. This will clean the cobwebs out of your speaker system or do your head in very nicely, listening with headphones. But to truly appreciate this music,it should be listened to in the open air,at volume. As the title suggests, these are tracks from several previous Schenker albums: THE ENDLESS JAM CONTINUES,UNFORGIVEN,ARACHNOPHOBIA,and LIVE: THE UNFORGIVEN WORLD TOUR. The vocals are handled by the singer who was in the various bands at the time. While the vocals are fine,it's Schenker's guitar that (rightly) stands out here. As usual his solos are one string-bending,white-hot note after note. Just when you think he can't do anything more-he does. On this collection the drums are mixed to the front, (especially the studio tracks) just under Schenker's guitar-which is a good thing. The combination is simply devastating, and makes for an intense listening experience. His solos are well thought out but still retain that feeling of wild abandonment so important in r&r.

The packaging is nice, except this is another one of those sleeves that when it's opened, the disc is right there, with no protection-so make sure it's "snapped in" properly or it will fall out. Under each group of tracks the band members and other information is listed, which is a nice extra. Too often this information is either abbreviated or missing altogether. This is for anyone who wants a concise package which gives an idea as to Schenker's (and his band) brand of r&r. It does it's job-whetting your appetite for more. If you want just one collection of Schenker during this period, pick this up now. And hope your neighbors don't mind a real dose of r&r."

"This CD is worth every cent. To hear Schenker play on Layla, Badge and While My Guitar Gently Weeps (just to name a few) is pure pleasure. I actually like his versions a tad bit better then the originals. He doesn't "copy" these songs, he makes them his own-and spectacularly !"
