Farewell My Summer Love
Chock full of hits and nicely assembled, this two-CD collection focuses on Michael before he left the Motown cocoon, hooked up with Quincy Jones, and changed the sound of black pop with Off the Wall. Does the relativel... more »y safe vibe and the less-than-groundbreaking nature of the music make these songs any less enjoyable or memorable? No way--especially for boomers who grew up with MJ. All the hits are here, from the chirpy smash "Rockin' Robin" to the yearning "Got to Be There" (check those high notes!) and a handful of J5 tracks (chief among them the impassioned "I'll Be There"). For fans of R&B and for Michael-maniacs, this is a must. --Amy Linden« less

MICHAEL JACKSON - THE KILLER EARLY STUFF

"First things first, Michael Jackson is a killer soul singer. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. He's got soul commin' out of every orphus in his body. This two CD set of incredible material focuses on that early time in his career when things seemed a little more simple. You can hear it in is voice, however, that things may not be as simple as they seem. Every cut on this CD is full of emotion, of incredible feeling. That emotion and power is what drives his music today. And what drove his music back then. Of the 44 songs on this CD (yes, 44, an amazing smount of songs for nay compilation), not one is bad. Yes his voice may have been pubecent and girly, but listen to it and you'll see why he is a pure soul and R&B singer, first and foremost. There are classic hits with his brothers, The Jackson 5 on here that will delite anybody. Watch out for 'Ain't No Sunshine', 'Music And Me' and 'It's Too Late To Change The Time'. They are killer songs, worthy of buying this album alone!Great CD for any fan at any age...Five out of Five"

"Herein lies the essence of a young generation that dared to finally tell why we've "Got To Be There"--and if not today then, "Maybe Tomorrow." We remember matching our affections with songs that brought out the hidden romantic within. Subsequently, this poetry in song is molded and etched in our hearts and minds. So, with a very young Micheal singing--we had a good thing going. The songs in this Anthology restores lost moments, refocuses blurred images and brings back those places that slipped away over time. As I think about it, some of us Never Can Say Goodby. If we do, we say goodbye to times that contributed to our very beings. As a result, the appeal of Micheal's ANThology far exceeds historic. They connect us to a time of wonderment, learning, and self-exploration. These songs show our feelings, and echo the sentiments of a once young and innocent love. And as most of us can recall...where there is love--"I'll Be There." These are not just good, but great songs. So, when the world is on my shoulders, and age 40 irritates me (for a brief moment in time), I remember these songs. They make me smile as I recall the words of the hopeful youth saying, "...we may not change the world in one day, but we still can change something today in our small way.""

"Let me just say that I am so glad I found this CD! I am a late thrities individual who remembers every one of these hits, some of them performed with the Jackson Five. For those of you who don't know the rest of them; Wer'e almost there, Just a Little Bit of You, Cinderella Stay Awhile, and a few others were from a album called FOREVER MICHAEL, which I bought when I was 8 years old (and still have, scratches and all, I wore that sucker out!) I had wanted the powers that be to put all of those songs on CD and they have minus 1 or 2 cuts (Where is the song DAPPER DAN?)This brings back great memories, songs that were cute, simple this was Michael they way most of us remember him. If you have an ear for nostalgia, when songs were simple get this CD!"

"I believe that a lot of Michael Jackson's earlier albums have really been overlooked. This compilation should still be availabe. Mike as a kid can sing better than 99 pecent of the artist out right now - which is a shame. I don't know why most people don't give him credit for a lot of his work as a child and teenager. I think Motown need to stop playing and reissue the indiviual albums because they really are great."
